Item check list if the boot process are too slow

On the windows OS (operating system) sometimes we face that boot up process are take too long, I did some test and here is probably the thing that make the boot process takes too long.

Free RAM, should meet the minimum.

If you don’t have enough free RAM, the boot process can take longer. For Windows XP, 256 MB RAM is the minimum, 512 MB or more would be better.

Try to defrag your Hard disk

If your Hard disk is running too slow it’s also caused to boot process take times. And if your Hard disk is really Bad (Got noise and running too slow) buy new one.

Not enough Free Disk space

Windows OS (operating system) has the file called swapfile, this file need a space, and the minimum space for swapfile is 3 megabytes of free disk space for each megabyte of system RAM

Do not install too much fonts or your system

Installing font on Windows are too simple, those some user installed more than 800 fonts, I recommend only 100 or 200.

Network drivers (Lan, Dial-up Networking, ADSL) are takes too long to load

Make a test, try disabling those driver and see if it makes a difference.

Application on startup

Too many applications on startup is not good, check your startup folder and remove any unneeded application.

Speed up menu display in winodws XP

Some users complaining to me that their work station is working to slow when they click on the start menu.

That because Microsoft Windows XP uses too much visual effects to provide a rich and friendly interface. One of these settings allows menus to disappear in the end, when you open them. This visual effect is so smooth that you have never noticed this, however, the effect came cause menus to take slightly longer to appear.

I think this should be a problem on a fast computer. But for a small workstation just like my office clients, somehow is not responding as quickly wish, you can make rapid display menus by changing and costume it.

To speed up menu display

1. Click on the Start menu. then Right-click on My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. Click the Advanced tab. In the Performance area, click Settings.

3. On the Visual Effects tab in the Performance Options dialog box, clear the Fade or slide menus into view check box.

4. now Click OK.

5. In the System Properties dialog box, click OK

Now whenever you click a start menu, it should appear almost instantly. If not contact me.

Speed up your browsing ability

When contacted by the website your computer sends information back and forth. Some of this information is concerned with solving site, the name of an address at things that TCP / IP really dealing with, not words. This is the DNS information and is used so that you do not need to pray for the location of the site each time you visit the site. Although Windows XP are very efficient DNS cache, you can increase your overall performance by increasing its size. You can do this with the registry below:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters]

  • "CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001
  • "CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180
  • "MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00
  • "MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d

Make a new text file and rename it dnscache.reg. Then copy and paste the above into it and save it. Sign that registry.
